Information delivered through games and gamification can be engaging and impactful, helping to empower young people and create better societies.
From 5-7 November, Eurodesk Brussels Link, in partnership with Eurodesk Spain and the University of Alicante, kicked off a 3-day training session on gamification and game-based learning in youth information services. Participants from 8 different countries gathered in Alicante, Spain.
Participants were presented with practical cases in which they could develop their skills in using gamification as a tool, and also developing their own prototypes of games for learning purposes. Jordi Martín Simón, an expert on gamification and game-based learning shared his insights with the participants, encouraging them to use various techniques to enhance their services and connect with their users.
The event began with a warm welcome by Audrey and Carmen from Eurodesk Brussels Link, followed by participants exploring gamification in youth-based learning. On the second day, Jordi Martín Simón led an info session on Game-based Learning in Youth Information Services, participants tested Eurodesk games and engaged in a game design challenge.
The final day was focused on gamification with expert inputs by Jordi Martin, inputs from Carmen on Eurodesk's current use of gamification in its digital strategy and a session by Copelia Mateo Guillen on digital tools to enhance learning.
“As information providers, we want young people to know about their rights and opportunities to explore the world. When you bring games and game elements into youth information, you do more than just capture attention. You inspire, you engage, and you create lasting, meaningful experiences that resonate long after the game ends.” - Audrey Frith, Eurodesk Director.
Activities throughout the days enabled participants to deepen connections with other members of the network, ultimately making for a successful training and info session assisting in delivering the goals of youth information strategies.
