Young Leaders Programme
In the framework of the European Development Days 2017, the European Commission has launched the Young Leaders Programme.
Young leaders from across the world, with proven commitment and community engagement, to represent the work and impact on development achieved by youth, are invited to apply for the Programme and get the chance to win an invitation to the 2017 edition of European Development Days (EDD17), taking place in Brussels, Belgium on 7-8 June. All expenses (Visa, travel, accommodation) will be covered by the European Commission.
Young Leaders will be able to speak in the Auditorium panel discussions of the forum, along with key political leaders. They will have the opportunity to present their story and challenging ideas to the audience, and to engage with key global actors, including governments and international organisations delegations.
How to apply
Applicants will have to show leadership and knowledge in one of the EDD 2017 topics, demonstrate expertise in their chosen field, and explain how they will represent young people at the forum.
Who can apply
- young people from 21 to 26 years of age from all around the world, with proven commitment and community engagement, to represent the work and impact on development achieved by youth.
EDD 2017 will focus on: Investing in Development.
The three main themes are:
- INVESTING IN PEOPLE AND PLANET - Young People, Gender equality/women empowerment, Migration and mobility, Demography and development Inequalities, Sustainable energy and climate action,
- INVESTING IN PROSPERITY - Sustainable Investment, Domestic resource mobilisation, Trade and fair globalisation, Decent jobs, Digitalisation,
- INVESTING IN PEACE AND PARTNERSHIPS, Partnering with the Private Sector, Building global partnerships, Engaging with Middle Income Countries (MICs), Partnerships for CSOs and local actors, Fragility and resilience.
Selected participants will be chosen to speak on one of these topics. Participants must therefore apply to be considered under at least one of the topics: they can choose up to 3 topics, and according to their expertise and experience, they might be considered for one of them. In addition to speaking in the forum’s highest-level debates, they will have the opportunity to participate in other sessions to help shape the development policies and practices of the 2030 Agenda.
The Young Leaders Programme lasts for 10 days in total: prior and during the forum, selected participants will have the opportunity to visit the European Union institutions, meet relevant development policy-makers, participate in inspiring workshops and present practices from their region.
Deadline to submit application: 9 March 2017, 13:00 CET.
