WHAT ARE  THE INFORMATION NEEDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE FROM ETHNIC, RACIAL, OR RELIGIOUS BACKGROUNDS?

.

Why is this targeted report important?

Following the successful launch of the main Eurodesk Youth Info Survey 2025 and our recent deep dive into the experiences of young people with disabilities or chronic health conditions, Eurodesk is proud to release a new targeted focus report.

As part of our ongoing commitment to inclusion and diversity, focusing our reach on those with fewer opportunities, the new report, Mobility and the Role of Youth Information in the Lives of Young People from Ethnic, Racial, or Religious Backgrounds, explores the unique needs, experiences, and barriers faced by these specific groups.

How was the data extracted?

Based on the responses of 661 young people identifying as part of an ethnic, racial, or religious minority, this report goes beyond general findings. By actively comparing their answers to those of the majority population, it clearly illustrates where belonging to a minority group can impact their experience with accessing information and taking part in a mobility project.

Key findings

While young people from ethnic, racial, or religious backgrounds go abroad as often as their peers and benefit significantly from EU programmes, the extensive challenges they face leave a mark.

  • They often rate their overall mobility experience less positively than the “majority youth”,

  • Discrimination rates were almost three times higher,

  • They prefer alternative mobility formats, like shorter programmes or online mobility options.

The findings are designed to help youth information services better tailor their approaches, improve information delivery, and ultimately create safer, more accessible mobility experiences.

Turning data into action

This publication aims to equip youth information workers with the knowledge to change that. By reaching out to families, expanding our social media presence to new platforms, and offering targeted support for administrative and discrimination challenges, we can ensure these young people have the amazing mobility experiences they deserve.
