The 2026 Pool of Young Journalists in Europe is now up and running, and already in its fifth year!
In 2022, the European Commission announced the European Year of Youth. In light of that, Eurodesk created the Pool of Young Journalists in Europe to give young people a voice on the European Youth Portal.
For the 2026 edition, More than 400 applications from 28 countries applied to be part of the Pool of Young Journalists. For the first time, residents of Ukraine, Georgia and Switzerland could also apply.
Seventeen young people were selected. From 16 to 20 February, they came to Brussels to officially kick off their one‑year commitment. During the meeting, they took part in training on journalism, interviewing and public speaking. They also visited the Directorate‑General for Education and Culture and met Alexander Schafer, advisor to the Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, and Glenn Micallef. Their programme also included a visit to the European Parliament.
You can follow the newly created Instagram account (@youngjournalistseu) of the Young Journalists to discover what they are working on throughout the year. And stay tuned on the European Youth Portal, as soon we will reveal the 17 young journalists.
