The thematic report on “Mobility and the role of Youth Information in the lives of young people from ethnic, racial, or religious backgrounds” uncovers the main challenges and needs of this group.
The key findings of this report are that young people from ethnic, racial, or religious backgrounds are:
- Just as open to going abroad as their peers.
- Prefer virtual and hybrid mobility formats more than other young people, making these valuable options to support their participation.
- Go abroad just as often as the rest of the youth population. However, they often need more support with their applications.
- Report their mobility experiences less enthusiastically and are less likely to recommend mobility to others as they experience more financial, administrative, and informational barriers and are three times more likely to face discrimination!
- Families and friends can strongly influence their mobility decisions, sometimes discouraging them, but also motivating and supporting them.
The report calls for strengthening youth information services, particularly by expanding outreach to families, providing support with applications and increasing presence across various social media platforms. More efforts should be put into combating discrimination, ensuring everyone can enjoy an experience abroad regardless of their background.
